Live Interview on Today with Hoda & Jenna on!
Highlight of 2023 celebrating the launch of The Sun Sets In Singapore in November 2023
Hello,
The past week brought a truly exciting and delightful experience that was somewhat of a blur, but no less thrilling for how quickly it flew by!
I was invited onto The Today Show, to be interviewed on TODAY with Hoda and Jenna about the inspiration and themes of The Sun Sets In Singapore, which is their November Book Club pick. What made it even more fun was that I was joined by Completely Booked, a virtual book club which reads diverse books led by the incredible Jordan Hernandez with members from all over the US and internationally. It is a unique book club in that it promises that the author of that month’s book will join the live meeting. Our meeting happened on The Today Show!

I started off backstage with my editor and publicist, meeting some of the Completely Booked members who looked so cool in their personalised sweatshirts (and phone cover which I really want!), and signing their copies of the novel. My editor told me later that there were so many famous people on either side of my changing room as well as at the studio, but I did not notice a single person because I did not stop talking with Jordan, her lovely family (she also has a twin, Joelle!) and the women, one of whom flew in all the way from California.
We were miked up and shuffled upstairs to the studio and on to the set. Hoda and Jenna blew in, like two angels fluttering in on a snow storm and the excitement levels went through the roof! It was amazing to finally meet Jenna in person. She is as warm as she comes across onscreen, with the same grounding presence. Hoda is incredibly chatty and funny - they are such a great duo.
Check out the video below for the moment we all met…
With no more than two minutes before we had to be in place for the cameras to go live (I’m not exaggerating!), Jenna saw us looking confused as to where to look, and said “Yeah, we have no idea what’s happening either, just go with it”. This immediately put us at ease because I could not tell you where a single camera was - nothing looked like a camera and I couldn’t find a lens! I think the Today Show likes a little chaos actually, because the same energy and banter captured in the interview was present before and after.
There were great questions posed by Completely Booked, and I was thrilled that they got to ask three questions (you can see the pleasant surprise on my face when Hoda goes to them earlier than I’d expected).
Jenna revealed the latest news about The Sun Sets In Singapore (I wasn’t expected the announcement! Thats showbiz - lol!), which is that it will be coming to TV in the future!
As soon as we were off-air, the set was whipped away and within seconds, it looked completely different. We took photos and that was it! I flew 18.5 hours for 7 minutes of fantastic TV.
I discovered afterwards that the Today Show gets between 2-3 million views a day and I was very, very happy to have found that out after the interview.

I had a wonderful five days in New York - look out for a post about the highlights of my trip coming soon.
xoxo
